I have been drinking and taking drugs for around 20 years. I stopped the drugs and was a functioning alcoholic. Thing's then got out of control when my boss closed the business and I become homeless. I was accepted into a homeless hostel through Two-Saints, but It was still being around others taking drugs and alcohol. I have now been relocated to a hostel run by St James. My key worker from CGL then referred me to DCDS. I was accepted at DCDS within a few months.
When I arrived at the De-tox centre I was anxious and nervous and just didn't want to be there. The staff were very patient with me as I was in bad place. They were really good and helped me through the initial days. After 3-4 days I really started mixing with the other clients, eating better and feeling much healthier. I'm on day nine now and I feel so much better, it's crazy.
Interacting with clients with similar problems. Patient and helpful staff and eating regular meals I found really useful. At first I struggled with structure, but then I realised why this was in place. I now feel really positive and optimistic. I am under no illusion about the challenges ahead. I am looking to get a bike and some weights to keep myself busy to keep me focused on my recovery. I am also looking to take a computer course and and CSCS course.
